Jeffrey G. McGonegal
Chief Executive Officer and Interim Chief Financial Officer
Jeff McGonegal was named Chief Executive Officer in February 2019, and interim Chief Financial Officer in August 2019. He had previously served as the Company's long time Chief Financial Officer until April 2018 and subsequently had been assisting Riot Blockchain in a consulting role. Jeff’s career has spanned over forty years in senior leadership roles working as an audit partner with a national accounting firm and subsequently as an executive within multiple public entities assisting them with SEC reporting, financing, merger, and acquisition transactions.
Jeff started his public accounting career with BDO USA, LLP. From 1974 to 1997, Mr. McGonegal was an accountant with BDO USA, LLP. While at BDO USA, LLP, Mr. McGonegal served as Managing Partner of the Denver, Colorado office. He received a B.A. degree in accounting from Florida State University and in 1975 became a Certified Public Accountant, now retired.
Jeff has extensive hands-on experience in working with and assisting growing companies achieving enhanced value for shareholders. He has in-depth expertise in merger and acquisition matters as well as SEC and public reporting compliance, up to and including private offerings, IPO’s, secondary offerings and exploring and analyzing financing alternatives.
Jeff McGonegal brings steadfast leadership and unique adaptability to the Company, both critical characteristics in emerging industries such as cryptocurrency and fintech. Jeff’s strengths lie in achieving management team objectives through clear communication, consistency, and significant overall business experience.
Vice President of Finance
Megan Brooks’ experience includes over 18 years in accounting, risk management, and operations with five years of executive management. Brooks has a B.S. in Finance, along with a Masters Certificate of Accountancy from University of Houston, C.T. Bauer College of Business, certification in risk management and is a licensed Risk Manager.
Brooks is highly experienced in emerging industries and navigating new regulatory territories. As Vice President of Finance of Riot, she brings comprehensive experience in operations, finance, and risk management to the Riot Team.
During her time in the risk management/insurance industry Brooks received a global award for Power 50 "One to Watch List" and has written numerous pieces for global publications. Brooks worked with emerging insurance domiciles and regulatory bodies to design and implement guidelines/legislature for financial reporting, solvency, and asset portfolios. Further she provided tax planning, audit management, investment solutions, lending, and reinsurance programs for clients across multiple industries from real estate to manufacturing.
Lead Blockchain Engineer
Karl started mining Bitcoin and Litecoin in 2012: first as a hobby, which became an obsession - then finally a profession. Karl has designed and built large-scale GPU and ASIC mining operations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico including the software used to monitor and maintain the mine. In tandem with the Riot Team, Karl designed and built the Riot mining operations in Oklahoma City. As Lead Blockchain Engineer for Riot, Karl supports the mining operations through development and management of the Riot 12 MW mining facility in Oklahoma City.
Karl brings to Riot an inherent ability to problem solve and think outside of the box. Karl became a licensed nuclear medicine technologist in 2012. However, shortly after learning of Bitcoin, Karl chose cryptocurrency over nuclear medicine and to learned how to program. Karl has interned at SAP solving problems in their in-memory database deployed in customer systems. During his time with SAP, Karl worked directly with their largest customers to help solve complex and critical database problems.
Head of Mining Operations
Paul Pascual has been involved in the crypto-industry since 2013; he built his first bitcoin mine in Florida with the belief that bitcoin would the future of currency. In recent years, Paul has designed and built mines in Canada and the U.S. As Head of Mining Operations for Riot, Paul handles the daily operations of the Oklahoma City mining facility. Alongside Karl Diab, Paul built out the Riot 12 MW mining facility currently operating in Oklahoma City.
Paul is a decorated veteran; serving as an Army Ranger, he was awarded the Iraq and Enduring Freedom Award and has also completed global humanitarian tours. Over the years, Paul has owned and operated both a customer service call center and online marketing company. He worked directly with clients to provide website development, brand management, and online media services.
